District 9 is shot in a documentary style that lends itself well to the overall feeling of the film. Starting at the end, you are slowly fed the rest of the story and come to realize that nothing is what it seems. When Wikus, a government agent, is infected, he finds himself seeking refuge in the very place he was determined to destroy and running from those he once worked. Flipping the way aliens are normally depicted through movies, District 9 reminds us that all living things matter. This film is an action packed thrill ride that is not soon forgotten.

Sherlock Holmes is a fast paced adventure with new faces and old villains. Robert Downey Jr. plays a charismatic Holmes up to his old antics and always one step ahead of what everyone else thinks is going on. In a race against time to solve the case and save their reputations, Holmes and Watson are helped by the lovely Irene Adler, played by Rachel McAdams, who is not the damsel in distress as you might think. Between all the twists and turns of the plot and Guy Ritchie's fast paced cuts, you can't take your eyes off the screen. It's time to have fun at the movies.

The Blind Side is the story of a wealthy family, who helps a young man that has nothing but the clothes on his back. In return he shows them that they have so much more then they ever realized. Sandra Bullock plays a strong-headed mother determined to help in anyway she can. Despite some public blowback and ridicule from friends, she sticks with him and her family takes him in like he is their own son. It is a new version of an age-old story that perhaps will never die. Although it doesn't offer anything new to the dialogue, it is heartfelt and a true story that helps us to remember we can make a difference every day.

Nine is the story of a director clinging to past accomplishments and searching for new beginnings. The opening monologue pulls you into his world and it never lets go. From the moment Penelope Cruz hits the stage you can't take your eyes off of her; and why would you want to? Defining sex appeal in a way that only someone who naturally has it could, she will leave your heart pounding and pulse racing. Not to leave out all the other beautiful, strong women that this film has to offer and all of their differing personalities which have guided Guido to this point in his life. But as his new film starts to unravel before it begins, he is forced to reevaluate what is important to him and begins to realize what a life of selfishness has afforded him to lose. Nine is a feast for the eyes and ears alike, and proves that the musical is still alive and well.

This is a no holds bar, gritty, and gruesome look into what it means to disarm bombs in times of war, and the toll it takes on those who do it. If you think your job is stressful, think again. These guys are able to push through unthinkable situations to get the job done, however, dealing with it at the end of the day creates large cracks in the structures of their lives. Full of nail biting suspense and heart stopping explosions, this film puts you into the looking glass without showing you the way out. It is real and not for the faint of heart. So, if you're looking for Hollywood, turn back now; and if not, tread carefully.

Up In The Air is proof that everybody needs human connection. In the toughest time with the hardest job George Clooney's character cuts himself off from others to avoid any feelings of attachment. But when his company tries to fulfill a growing need for a fast paced society, his ideals are put into question. Between his understudy, new girlfriend, and family he is able to find what was missing. Sometimes what we are looking for has been there all along. This is a warm heart felt film with loads of laughter and surprises.

I want to start off by telling you a little about myself. I have no film background, I'm an artist with an emphasis in drawing and painting, but love all kinds of art especially movies. They take me to places I've never been. I have a huge collection and am interested in everything about them from the films themselves to the directors ideas. So these are my opinions about movies new and old. I hope you enjoy!

Garden State is one of my favorites, a coming of age story about not really ever knowing what the big picture holds, but realizing that as long as you can come to odds with your past your future can be bright. This is a first hand look into overcoming depression, letting people in, and learning how to feel. It is not all serious though there is great humor and awkwardness spliced throughout, for those who like to laugh at life. This is a must see if you haven't already go rent it tonight, and if you have watch it again it's worth it!
