The Last Air Bender

The Last Air Bender falls victim to what many movies based on existing story lines do; trying to please the already existing audience while leaving everyone else out in the cold. The writing was cheesy and rushed which made the story difficult to believe, and the acting subpar. The special effects were interesting but did not make up for the content that was lacking.

Cyrus

Cyrus is real peak into the lives of a couple. Showing us the awkward and dark happenings of a new relationship, complicated by a son that wants nothing to do with it. Yet through it all there is so much humor to be found. While there is a level of uncomfortability, we also get to see a side of the human condition that is not normally looked at, and how the painful truth can set things right.

Salt

Evelyn Salt is the new Jason Bourne, in this action packed spy thriller Angelina Jolie plays the anti hero that everyone roots for. Salt is predictably unpredictable and will keep you on your toes from start to finish. So if you are in the mood for some action with a twist here it is.

Inception

Christopher Nolan has proven himself time and time again, but if you were still unsure of his abilities to write and direct Inception solidifies his talent and proves that he is here to stay. This mind boggling film takes us deep into the conundrum that is our dream state, and just as you think there is no way out, we are brought up for a fresh breath of air and a film that sets itself apart from everything else out there. If you let yourself into this world you won't be disappointed.

If you want to be transported into a fantastical world of color and beauty this is the film to see. The art is breathtaking from beginning to end and the creatures are amazing. After you get past all the outer beauty of the film, you still have the story which doesn't let you down. James Cameron creates a world not so far from our own where the others wont give up their homes for our greed. He shows us this world from their point of view, making it clear that our way is not always the right way and that if pushed hard enough the oppressed will push back.

District 9 is shot in a documentary style that lends itself well to the overall feeling of the film. Starting at the end, you are slowly fed the rest of the story and come to realize that nothing is what it seems. When Wikus, a government agent, is infected, he finds himself seeking refuge in the very place he was determined to destroy and running from those he once worked. Flipping the way aliens are normally depicted through movies, District 9 reminds us that all living things matter. This film is an action packed thrill ride that is not soon forgotten.

Sherlock Holmes is a fast paced adventure with new faces and old villains. Robert Downey Jr. plays a charismatic Holmes up to his old antics and always one step ahead of what everyone else thinks is going on. In a race against time to solve the case and save their reputations, Holmes and Watson are helped by the lovely Irene Adler, played by Rachel McAdams, who is not the damsel in distress as you might think. Between all the twists and turns of the plot and Guy Ritchie's fast paced cuts, you can't take your eyes off the screen. It's time to have fun at the movies.
